FIGURING LIFE OUT INSIDE THE GLASS HOUSE OF DEPRESSION & ANXIETY.

My perspective on life, living with depression and finding my voice.

Welcome to The Writer's Block, the place where I can write about the world around me through the eyes of someone who is still trying to figure out how to live with depression & anxiety. This is a project I've been wanting to do for a while. I love writing. I love reading. I used to read and write all the time. The past few years have been rough on me mentally. I have had quite the writer's block. This is a place where I can come to share the stories, thoughts, and feelings I have in my head. It's also a place where I review books I am currently or have read, take care of the many plants I have and share really cute pictures of my 2 Dalmatians Luna & Beau.

In a time when it's so much easier for people to talk about their mental health struggles without feeling extremely stigmatized or shunned, hopefully, sharing my struggles with Mental Health can help someone out there who is also struggling.

ABOUT ME

The Outline

I have been wanting to start a blog for the longest time. It might be a dying media, as everyone is moving over to YouTube to "vlog" their life. I wouldn't say I'm camera shy but there isn't really anything to vlog when writing. I believe writing is an intimate process that just can't be explained or shown through a lens.
For the past two years or so, I've had major reader and writer's block. I was lucky if I read one book a year. I used to read a book or two a month, sometimes more. I was in a deep depression that I just couldn't get myself out of. Fast Forward to two years later, I've gotten the help I needed and I've been able to lift the block off my chest.
This will be a place where I can write freely.  I have always loved reading too. I've been reading chapter books since I could read and have only kept going since then. My taste in literature has evolved over time. I'd like to share some of the books I am reading with all of you! How I feel about them and if they are worth it to you.

I also want this to be a space where I can share my stories dealing with my mental health, getting healthy both mentally and physically, and taking care of my medium-sized (and growing, despite how my husband might feel) plant collection along with my garden.

How are any of those things related to mental health? You are probably definitely thinking... Well, they are. My mental block/fog/wall has kept me from doing things I love, taking care of the things and people I love, and I'm ready to take it all back and get rid of that block.

BYE Block, BYE.

“You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it.

That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.”
